People have always been my happy place! I was raised in a rural farm town on the outskirts of McNairy County in West Tennessee, living with my great-grandparents and surrounded by animals. As you can imagine, it sometimes got pretty lonely! Every chance I had to sit in my grandparents' cafe, spend extra time at school, or visit the store, I was happy to take. Each outing was an opportunity to learn more about the people and world around me. I knew the world was bigger than the small one built in a small town. School allowed me to not only deepen my love for building relationships but also ignite my creativity in more ways than I could have imagined. I discovered a passion for writing, especially in ways that touched the lives of others or gave me a chance to tell a story!
I am currently an upcoming senior at the University of Memphis, where I am studying Public Relations with a minor in Political Science. So far, I've had the incredible opportunity to study Data Visualization at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germany; serve as the Promotional Director for the Look Back to Live Ahead exhibit 2023; and hold the position of Vice President and President-Elect of the PRSSA Memphis Chapter. Additionally, I am serving my second term in the Student Government Association as the Lambuth Senator. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of the media world but also led me to my current role as a social media manager and freelance influencer content curator.
I plan to wrap up my year with a few remaining courses and complete a PR-related practicum... then it's off to Capitol Hill! PR and Media will always hold a special place in my heart, having allowed me to develop an invaluable skillset and network, both professionally and personally. My life has experienced its share of highs and lows. During my role as Promotional Director for the 'Look Back to Live Ahead' Exhibit, I was profoundly reminded of the importance of amplifying the voices of the oppressed. It reinforced the need to stand up for equality and justice within our communities and highlighted the significant role these values have played in my life. My current plan is to attend Belmont School of Law, seeking a J.D. to serve not only as a family litigator but also as a decision-maker in rooms where I wish decisions had been made differently for me. For the next couple of years, I still plan to engage with the media world, eagerly anticipating what the field has to offer. I hope to continue enhancing my skills in creative storytelling and content creation!
